Lincolnshire’s very own Guy Martin has clinched pole position for the Superstock race at the Ulster Grand Prix.
The Kirmington-based rider bagged the top spot with a 129.510mph lap to secure first from Keith Amor on the Rig Deluge BMW by 0.3 seconds, who lapped at 129.317mph.
Tyco BMW rider Martin has a good track record at the world’s fastest road race – he’s won 11 times but has never managed to secure a victory in the Superstock class at the 7.4-mile Dundrod course – a statistic the maverick racer will be aiming to put right on Saturday.
Team-mate William Dunlop was third fastest on the second of the Tyco BMW machines at 129.264mph.
PBM Kawasaki’s Ian Hutchinson, who won the Superstock race at the Isle of Man TT, was fourth quickest on the ZX-10R (129.196mph) and half a second back on Martin, with Ulster riders Lee Johnston (East Coast/Burdens BMW) and Michael Dunlop (MD Racing BMW) next as one second covered the top six.
